Going on a Diet!

So finally the Omoikane is doing as she should be. She is finally (power wise, and handling wise) the car I imagined when looking for a car in 2006. But with her size comes a beefy weight. She is no less than 3900 pounds. That is HUGE in car weight.

So why do I care? More weight means a slower car at the same HP level. It kind of goes like this:

If you have 2 cars, with the same power outputs, HP and TQ, and same gearing, basically everything equal, even driver (remember "Cēterīs Paribu from Econ class? lol) then the car with the least amount of weight would be faster.

Omoikane is now at the bodyshop getting 6 panels painted, so I am planning the weight reduction from now. she'll be done in about 7 days.

The fastest way to reduce weight is to rip out the extra tire and articles found in the trunk, which I have done.

The 2nd fastest way is to replace the car's hood and trunk) which are huge sheets of metal with a Carbon Fiber hood or a Fiber Glass hood.

CF tends to be more rigid, and less crackable, but is also not the most easy to paint, and a CF hood on a black car makes it look like a poorly painted grey part. It is also more expensive than FG as a part.

FG is paintable and cheaper, but is more delicate. It also must be painted, so it will look real nice in black, but the cost of paint factored in, it will end up costing the same as a CF hood.

The other things to take into account are looks. The only good quality CF hoods are the standard SRT look, which isnt that appealing to me, is over done, and boring.

A company makes a challenger style hood in FG for my car, and better yet, an old school (70's style) Six Pack hood!

A backup plan is the "rk sport" hood, also in FG.

I've added pics of all of them for comparison. They all weigh about 1/2 of what the stock metal hood weighs.

Note that the 1st pic is a car belonging to a buddy on ChargerForums.com used here as a good example of the rksport hood done right!

RK Sport hood!

Old School Six Pack! My fav! But less Aerodynamic

Another pic!

And another! I'm in love! lol.

Challenger style hood in FG, more aerodynamic, but less menacing.

So which would you put on a 564 hp monster?

I'm going to wait to see her all pretty with the front lip and new 22 inch rims to choose. I need to visualize "the look" as a whole. But your comments are very very welcomed!
